Just did some CoHO wallpapers as I’m playing on a biggish screen for a change. All of these are copyright Shanda and/or Relic, I did not make them, I just took a screenshot and cropped it.

CoHO for Company of Heroes Players

Company of Heroes Online (or CoHO for short) is a MMO real-time strategy game produced jointly by Relic and Shanda, a Chinese online gaming company. In essence, it’s a combination of an MMO-like lobby area and the gameplay of the original Company of Heroes (or CoH for short). This guide will explain the differences between the two games and hopefully inspire you to give it a try.

CoHO Heros

In this guide, I’ll write a description and rating of each hero available for purchase or crafting in Company of Heroes Online, the Chinese MMO-like port of the Relic RTS Company of Heroes. More heroes will be added as I acquire them. For help on purchasing heroes, see my previous post on buying CoHO points.

Evochron Legends

Evochron Legends is a space flight simulator produced by one man production house Starwraith 3D Games. So far it’s been extremely entertaining, with one fatal flaw: the interface. There are three main displays in the cockpit of your fighter, one with your own ship’s information, another with the 3D map, and another with information on whatever you’ve targeted. It gets more confusing when you bring down the various consoles like the one for navigation, as shown below.

"This console lets you manage jump drive travel and system navigation in an easy-to-use interface."

"This console lets you manage jump drive travel and system navigation in an easy-to-use interface."

Games like X-Wing, Free-Space, and Independence War have all had the same information, but have presented it in a much more effective way. Having said that however, as soon as you do learn the thing, the rest of the game is brilliant — an open ended world with lots to do, and it seems well worth the $25 cost of entry. You can download a 90 minute demo of the game here, and I’d encourage you to do so!

Samsung NC10 Review

The NC10 is the smaller of the two netbooks Samsung has produced, with netbook standard specifications in most areas, but a few surprises in others. Overall, it’s a well designed and attractively priced netbook. Full review after the jump.

Other Blogs

I’ve written a few blogs for my work at Sun; I’m a Campus Ambassador at the University of Bristol. What that means is that I organise events to promote Sun and Open Source solutions around the University. We just held a Hack Day, so check out the official website or my Sun blog.

CoHO Points

Editor’s note: This piece details the highly involved process of buying points, the currency used in  Company of Heroes Online, a Chinese-developed port of a popular Real Time Strategy game. Its publication on marked the first time anything I had ever written was ever published somewhere important. Original article is still here.
